Theme Designs enjoys a long history of creating extraordinary experiences for demanding and high profile clientele. Using proven construction techniques and sculpting methods we have created large scale realistic rockwork formations in fountains, climbing walls, sculptures, and more all across the globe.
One of the biggest challenges that arise when working with natural stone is weight. Real boulders weigh hundreds sometimes thousands of pounds and are awkward during the installation process. Design considerations are restricted since stacking is the only real option for placement to insure stability. Realistic Faux Rockwork is lightweight yet strong and durable. Castings are made from actual rock outcroppings and boulders in the wilderness bringing a realism that mimics nature. No unsightly "Fred Flintstone" like displays. It takes artisan skill and extensive practice to be able to provide the finishing details necessary to produce a world class product. Seaming the panels, joining natural fissures, creating the patina of stone, moss, and algae require an expertise shared by few companies. Structural considerations play an equally important role. Lightweight panels (10lbs/ft2) compared to natural stone (150 lbs/ft3) still require an understanding of good construction methods. Working with structural engineers and landscape architects assures safety in conjunction with aesthetics to bring your vision to realization.
Theme Designs provides in-house detailing for everything we build. When requested we coordinate with engineers, architects, and landscape architects to provide the most cost efficient and structurally sound methods of implementaton.
This design/build water feature is a complex undertaking of hydraulic, structural, and mechanical engineering. Ten (10) "sheet" waterfalls are nestled within a main pool operating at a flow rate of 36,000 gallons per hour. Hidden in the structure is a full service server station to assist in good customer service and assure profitability. There is also a seperate pump room integral to the structure that allows for ease of maintenance and equipment servicability. Covering the structure is a series of green roofs designed to enhance the realistic appearance of the feature with native plant materials providing year round color, cascading vines, and floral display.

Fountains at Memorial City Penthouse Water Feature
A particular set of criteria were required in the design and installation of the vertical GFRC rock waterfall on the 13th floor of Metro National's new high rise luxury apartments. Avoiding tension cables, suspending a grotto ceiling, and keeping a high waterfall drop from splashing onto the walkway were just a few of the challenges that we faced during construction. We coordinated with Morris Architects, the General Contractor Anslow Bryant, and their electrician, water proofing contractor, roofer, EFS contractor, and flooring contractor.
"Now that the Fountains at Memorial City project is complete, I want to take a moment to thank you for the great job your company did on the faux rock wall and integral waterfall adjacent to the swimming pool on the penthouse level. Due to the difficult working conditions and design, we were at a loss as to how to handle this very unique scope of work. Then, you and your talented team of professionals stepped to the forefront and turned a a very difficult situtation into a manageable one. After you got involved, the work went together very smoothly and was finished on time and in budget. And, the completed work is really beautiful. As attested by the leasing company, the rock wall and waterfall feature at the pool deck is the focal point of the entire project.
The Theme Designs team is truly creative and a real pleasure to work with. We will definitely use Theme Designs for all future work of a similar nature."

White Tigers of the Maharaja's Palace - Downtown Aquarium, Houston, TX
"Building exhibits utilized for large animals is extremely difficult - and requires products and installations that need to hold up under unusual circumstances. They need to be long term installations with no failures. The waterfall feature and the theme work provided by Theme Designs has withstood the wear and tear of 400 pound Bengal tigers for over 6 years. Their work met all the requirements necessary to safely maintain these unique animals. It has been maintenance free (no leaks, filtration issues, failures of any kind) outside normal maintenance responsibilities. Any issues that required a response to repair were done quickly and professionally."
